Yarn, somehow managing to completely tangle and twist into knots may seem impossible to undo, is a discouraging feeling. Being frustrated by the yarn or pattern hurts one’s self esteem making them want to throw it all away and give up all together. Leaping before learning to walk could be disastrous and frustrating. Try not to take on a project that is too big (Fig. 3.1). Perhaps if a pattern is too advanced or confusing for a beginner, start out slower by trying a simpler project; Say the pattern chosen was a large blanket or coat, try making a scarf or leg warmers. Taking it slow may seem boring but it will help build patience. As one gradually makes more complex projects, it will continue to get more fun and exciting. Knitting and crocheting does take time, but it does not waste time. Single parents with multiple jobs and full-time students rarely have hours of free time to set aside for hobbies, with knitting and crocheting though, it is easily packable and after some getting used to, it can be done while watching television, waiting at a dentist appointment, or during social conversations.

If one is learning on their own and does not personally know anyone who knows enough about knitting or crocheting tocan help with the inconveniences of knots and confusion, there are places and people who can and will gladly do their best to help solve them.
